Our classroom is unique because it utilizes a co-teaching model of education. Co-teaching is often implemented with general and special education teachers paired together as part of an initiative to create a more inclusive classroom that benefits ALL students. This means both teachers share all of the responsibilities of managing, planning, teaching, and assessing skills in our classroom. We continually collaborate to specially-design and differentiate our instruction to ensure ALL of our students get exactly what they need to grow and be successful.
An integral part of our classroom culture is learning to develop a Growth Mindset. Personal-growth and effort are valued above perfection. We believe mistakes are an important part of learning and want our students to feel safe to take risks in the classroom. When things feel challenging, we encourage our students to understand that productive struggle is part of the learning process-- your brain is forming new connections and getting stronger each time you challenge it. We also want our students to develop important social/ emotional skills and learn how to cooperate, collaborate, and interact with others. Through regular activities and discussions, we will build empathy and learn strategies for self-regulation and problem-solving. We'll do a lot of work to help our students develop these important skills and mindsets, but we're also firm believers in the old saying, "It takes a village," so please reach out if you'd like more information about how you can support this development at home, too! |
